Sony WH-1000XM6 Review: The New King of Noise Canceling?
Sony's latest flagship headphones push ANC further than ever. But are they worth the upgrade?
✓ Pros

- Exceptional battery life (40 hours)
- Comfortable for long listening sessions
- Hi-Res Audio support with LDAC
- Multipoint Bluetooth connection
✗ Cons
- Expensive at $399
- Case is still bulky
- No USB-C charging for the case
- Touch controls can be finicky
The Sony WH-1000XM6 arrives with a simple promise: silence everything. After two weeks of testing in coffee shops, airplanes, and busy streets, I can confidently say Sony has delivered the most effective noise cancellation I’ve ever experienced in a pair of consumer headphones.
Design & Comfort
Sony refined the design slightly — the headband is now padded with a softer synthetic leather, and the ear cups rotate more freely. At 254g, they’re lightweight enough for all-day wear. The matte finish resists fingerprints, though the plastic construction still doesn’t feel quite as premium as the AirPods Max.
Verdict: 9/10 — A comfortable, well-thought-out design.
Sound Quality
The XM6 uses Sony’s updated QN2e chip, which processes audio in real-time. The default sound signature is warm with punchy bass — perfect for pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. Soundstage is wide for closed-back headphones.
Noise Cancellation
This is where Sony shines. The new HD Noise Canceling Processor QN2e adapts to your environment faster than ever. On a recent flight, the engine roar disappeared completely. Wind noise reduction has also improved significantly.
Battery Life
40 hours with ANC on, 50 hours without. Quick charge gives you 5 hours from a 10-minute charge. Wireless charging on the case is a welcome addition.
Should You Buy It?
If you want the best noise cancellation on the market, yes. If you own the XM5, the upgrade is incremental — you might wait for the XM7.
